February 2 - 9, 2008
we will once again head
to Honduras for another opportunity to help Hondurans help themselves and
also share God’s love with the people of Honduras. Please start praying now
for those God has called to go as well and those that they will come in
contact with.
Honduras
Missions
What is HOI?
Honduras Outreach, Inc.
is a transdenominational mission program dedicated to
improving lives of
residents of and visitors to the Agalta Valley, Olancho,
Honduras. The rural Agalta Valley is home to
around 25,000 Hondurans and North Americans minister to
each other and share the love of Jesus Christ.
Rancho el Paraiso, the heart of the ministry in Olancho,
is a 1,600-acre working and demonstration ranch.
About 44 Hondurans are employed there full time.
It is also the temporary home of visiting mission groups
and the permanent site of the Louise Mahaffey Bible
Training Center for the Americas. There is a
medical clinic on the ranch, and four satellite clinics
in the valley. HOI was incorporated in 1987, and
has hosted mission teams each year since.
What is a Typical Trip?
The mission experience begins early on Saturday at the
airport. You fly into Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where
you are met by HOI staff. They take you to
Juticalpa, the halfway point of your trip to Rancho el
Paraiso, where you spend the night in a hotel and have
dinner in a local restaurant. After breakfast the
next morning you continue to the ranch. Sunday
afternoons are a leisurely introduction to the ranch.
Monday morning starts your work project, and you work on
that each day. Evenings are a great time for group
gatherings, and HOI has scheduled some activities. On
Friday morning you leave for Tegucigalpa and arrive at
the hotel in time for shopping and dinner.
You are accompanied by experienced HOI staff at all
times during your trip. All meals are provided either at
a restaurant or the ranch. All hotel stays are arranged
and included. HOI provides all transportation, from
pick-up to drop-off back at Toncotin Airport. In fact,
we arrange the whole trip for you once you decide to go.
What Do Groups Need?
The only requirements we have for the trip is a willing
spirit. Most construction projects done by groups are
relatively simple in nature. You are always under the
direct supervision of the Honduran staff. The person who
will accompany your group is bilingual, so Spanish
speaking is not required. We do recommend, however, that
your group try to learn a few simple phrases. You can
carry on a decent conversation with some basics.
Rancho el Paraiso has a dorm with four rooms; each
sleeps eight, and four bathrooms with North American
fixtures. Facilities are basically like a nice camp
house, and the staff is dedicated to you.
Cost of the trip is airfare to Tegucigalpa, generally
ranging from about $500 to $700, plus $550. This fee
includes everything in country, except for a $27
departure tax at the airport, and any monies for
souvenirs.
