The word “Gospel” literally means “good news.” In order to understand the good news, we must first understand the bad news.
As a result of the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, mankind has inherently been corrupted by sin. Sin is anything that separates us from God; even the smallest lie misses the mark (the perfect standard) that God has set for us. Because of our sin, we are separated from our Creator and deserve the penalty for our sin, death.
God sent His Son, Jesus, to save you.
Even though we can’t earn our way back to God or measure up to His perfection, He sent Jesus to come to us! Even though we deserved the death penalty for our sin, Jesus took the penalty. God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to be born of a virgin, live a perfect and holy life, die on the cross, rise from the dead and conquer our sins. We can be saved by grace through faith in Him! We can depend on Jesus for forgiveness and to give us everlasting life, to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. And to also have a relationship with Him here on Earth.
What does it mean to repent? It means to do a spiritual U-turn with the help of the Holy Spirit. You turn from sin, and you turn to God. It doesn’t mean you’ll never sin again, but it does mean you are tired of it and don’t want to sin.
Jesus paid the price for you, and that He rose from the dead to give you eternal life.
You must come to Christ by faith. You do that by calling upon His Name. The moment you call upon Him and receive Him as your Savior, He makes you a new creation.
“Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned against You. I turn from my sin right now. I believe that You died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. I receive You as the Lord and Savior of my life. I give my life to You. In Jesus name, Amen.”
If you sincerely repented of your sin, put your faith in Christ and called upon his name to save you, the Bible says you’re a Christian. Old things have passed away, new things have come, and the spirit of God has come to live within you. Welcome to the family of God!
If you called upon the Name of the Lord, please let us know. We would love to rejoice with you for what He’s done in your life. We would also like to send you some free materials that will help you get started in the Christian life.
