40 days of prayer the homeless

Day 11: The Homeless

Today we place special emphasis during our prayer on those who lack a place to dwell, the homeless. In some regions of America, children live and sleep in city culverts and under bridges because that is their home. An increasing number of families are seeking help from local homeless shelters because they have no place to live. Many homeless, who often suffer from mental illness or addictions, sleep in parks and beside the road in bushes and shrubs. Pray for the well-being of the homeless and especially that the Church will rise up to help meet this growing need. Pray about ways that you and your church might become specifically involved in ministering to the homeless—providing food, clothing, and assistance in finding employment and meeting family needs. Especially remember ministries you know of that are devoted to this specific challenge. Above all, pray for opportunities for sharing the Gospel with homeless people who do not know the Lord. Encourage them with the words of the prophet Samuel: “The Lord…raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor” (1 Samuel 2:7-8).

Today’s Passages:

Psalm 61:2-4

From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

Psalm 12:5

“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”
