Big Idea: There are gospel opportuni0es that we can leverage every single day of our lives.
1. The Desperation of the Lost
Luke 19:1-4 “Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.”
We get so caught up in our routines and programs that we miss the cries for help right in front of us.
Evangelism isn’t op2onal for us as believers. It is the heartbeat of who we are in Christ.
2. The Radical Love of Jesus
Luke 19:5-7 “When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.’ So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to muIer, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.’”
Jesus doesn’t avoid sinners; He goes to them. He meets them where they are, even when it makes others uncomfortable.
82% of unchurched people would consider coming to church if a friend invited them, but only 2% of Christians actually extend that invitation!!!!
3. The Transformation of a New Life
Luke 19:8-10 “But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four 0mes the amount.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Today salva0on has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.‘”
We’ve made faith about comfort, appearances or rituals, and we’ve lost the urgency and depth of true repentance.
The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and rose again, conquering death. Through His sacrifice, we are offered forgiveness, new life and reconciliation with God.
