God didn’t just come to earth to give us a holiday; He came to give us Himself. Big Idea: The hope of salvation is found in the incarnation 1 John 5:1–12
1. Jesus Became Human to Change Us: 1 John 5:1-5
You cannot love God without loving Jesus.
God calls us to godliness, but the path to victory isn’t through striving harder in our own strength. It’s through submitting to the Holy Spirit.
2. Jesus Became Human to Show Us: 1 John 5:6–10
1 John 5:6 “This is the one who came by water and blood – Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.”
The Spirit’s ongoing work in the lives of believers – transforming hearts, producing spiritual fruit and empowering obedience – is a continual testimony that Jesus is who He claimed to be.
To believe in Jesus is to accept God’s testimony and align yourself with the truth.
3. Jesus Became Human to Save Us: 1 John 5:11–12
1 John 5:11-12 says, “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
People spend their lives planning for the future – saving for retirement, buying insurance and protecting their assets – but they neglect the most important thing: their eternal destiny.
To reject Christ is to reject life itself.
