Scripture: 1 John 5:13-21

Big Idea:  Live boldly with unshakable faith in God’s invincible love

1:  We Have Unshakeable Faith in God’s Promise: 1 John 5:13-15

1 John 5:13-15 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Our eternal security doesn’t depend on how perfectly we walk but on how faithfully God forgives.

We can pray boldly, knowing the God of the universe listens and acts according to His perfect will.

2:  We Have Unshakeable Faith in God’s Restorative Power:  1 John 5:16-17

1 John 5:16-17 “If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that.17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

Through our prayers, God restores spiritual health, renews fellowship and brings life where sin has caused damage.

A praying church is a spiritually healthy church, and a spiritually healthy church experiences God’s unbridled power.

3: We Have Unshakable Faith in God’s Personal Protection:  1 John 5:18-21

1 John 5:18 says, “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.”

Satan may tempt us, accuse us and throw every trial he has at us, but he cannot touch what matters most. Our salvation is untouchable, unshakable and forever secure in Christ.

Jesus conquered sin and death so we might have eternal life.
